The government will take a two-year project involving USD two million for developing living standard of women tea workers and ensuring social safety of their families in three districts under Sylhet division.
The information was revealed at a view-exchange, chaired by Labour and Employment Secretary KM Ali Azam, at the head office of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE).
Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Md Abul Kalam Azad attended the meeting as the chief guest. Inspector General of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Shib Nath Roy also addressed the meeting.
Labour and Employment Ministry, Social Welfare Ministry, Women and Children Affairs Ministry and Bangladesh Tea Board in association with four development agencies of the United Nations will work in the proposed project for the betterment of tea workers in Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sylhet districts under the division.
UN development agencies ILO, UNFPA, UNICEF and UN Women will extend overall cooperation for the implementation of the project.
Abul Kalam Azad said the government is working to find out the problems of marginal groups of people for their solutions to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To achieve SDGs, different problems of women workers of the country’s important sector of tea should be resolved, he said.
He welcomed the UN agencies for showing keenness to cooperate the government in this regard.
